LIZ HARLEY - BIOGRAPHY

Liz Harley's background and training is as a classical singer. She trained first in Glasgow and then spent four postgraduate years at The Guildhall School of Music & Drama, London majoring in solo performance.
Liz's performing career started in the late 1970s and has covered many different areas within the classical singing profession. She was a member of the BBC Singers and travelled extensively as a soloist in the UK and abroad. She sang frequently with the late Lord Menuhin conducting including concerts in Germany, Greece and France. As a soloist she sang with the RSNO, the Welsh Chamber Orchestra and the Bournemouth Sinfonietta and appeared at many of this country's leading concert halls, including the South Bank and St John's Smith Square.
In opera, she sang principal roles for English National Opera, Scottish Opera, the new D'Oyly Carte Opera and Music Theatre Wales. Abroad, for the Gran Teatre del Liceu, Barcelona; Opera de Nantes, France and at the Centre for the Performing Arts, Banff, Canada. |
QUALIFICATIONS/MEMBERSHIPS
Liz Harley is a Licentiate of, and has postgraduate Certificates of Advanced Studies in Vocal Training & Opera from the Guildhall School (LGSM; CAS GSMD). She also has a Certificate in the Art of Teaching Singing from Thames Valley University. She was a member of EQUITY. She is a member of the ISM (Incorporated Society of Musicians); the BVA (British Voice Association) and AOTOS (Association of the Teachers of Singing); AESS (Association of English Singers & Speakers).
Since starting The Voice Studio in the mid 1990s Liz has also worked as a one-to-one singing coach/teacher at the Leys School, Cambridge and has directed the singing class for the BTEC Performing Arts Course at Oaklands College, Welwyn Garden City.
Liz's work now focuses on coaching singing with individuals on a one-to-one basis at her Welwyn Garden Studio. She sees her role as an 'enabler' rather than 'teacher', her aim being to help by encouraging and guiding those interested in exploring their singing and/or speaking voice.
